The dealer's obligation
You — the dealership — are the sender for every message dispatched through VinScouter. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act, state mini-TCPAs (FL, OK, WA), and CAN-SPAM apply to you.
What VinScouter does to help
- Provisions A2P 10DLC-registered numbers per rooftop with branded sender ID.
- Auto-appends opt-out language ("Reply STOP to opt out") on first SMS.
- Detects and suppresses STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, REMOVE, QUIT keywords system-wide.
- Blocks SMS sends between 9 PM and 8 AM in the seller's local time zone.
- Maintains an account-wide suppression list that overrides any send.
- Detects and flags listings posted by likely dealers (no private-party consent).
Your responsibilities
- Only contact sellers who publicly posted a number for the purpose of selling that vehicle.
- Identify your dealership clearly on the first message.
- Honor opt-outs immediately and permanently.
- Maintain records of consent and message logs (VinScouter retains for 24 months).
Reporting abuse
Sellers who receive unwanted messages can email abuse@vinscouter.com. We investigate every report and may suspend dealers found in violation.
